Every day from 2:45 to 3:15pm

Cascade Heights is looking for volunteers to visit our new library and listen to one of our wonderful Falcons read a book to them. Readers will be awaiting your arrival in the library at 2:45pm and will return to class at 3:15pm. Please join us any day that works for you!

What is Super Readers Club?

As educators and parents, one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is a love of reading. Research shows there are many benefits. Reading is the key that opens the door into every subject and leads to success in school and beyond. Students who read more become more literate members of society. Research also indicates that student choice (independently choosing what to read) is a strong motivating factor to increase voluntary reading. Super Readers Club is one way we can offer children the opportunity to choose a book to read for fun to a sympathetic ear. More opportunities to read are more opportunities to improve skills and gain confidence.

“…reading transforms the lives of individuals – whatever their social circumstances. Regular reading not only boosts the likelihood of an individual’s academic and economic success… The statistics confirm: Books change lives.” (Gioia 2007)

Battle of the Books has begun!

We are half way through the battles. Current standings are:

  • 6th – 120 points
  • 4th – 113 points
  • 7th – 88 points
  • 3rd – 81 points
  • 8th – 77 points
  • 5th – 76 points

Who will emerge victorious? Come find out. The final battle will be in the Gym on Thursday, March 3rd! Everyone is welcome.

Monday, February 29. 5pm to close.
McMenamin's on Sunnyside,
9757 SE Sunnyside Rd, Clackamas, OR 97015

For those who are unfamiliar with PTA Family Night Out fundraisers, this is how it works: Come to the restaurant to hang out with your fellow Falcon families. Bring your family, friends, neighbors, great Aunt Jean, and whoever else wants to join us. When you order, tell them you are with Cascade Heights and the restaurant donates part of their profit to the PTA. You get an enjoyable night out with family and friends and the PTA makes some money. Easy!

The percentage is determined by the restaurant. For this event, McMenamins will donate 50% of the sales to CHPCS-PTA after 5pm.

The restaurant is quite small, so to spread out arrival times consider coming during the window suggested for each grade. However, if you can’t make it during that time, please come anyway! Eating dinner at a restaurant when you know everyone is fun – it’s like our own private party.

  • 4:45-5:45 Kindy, 1st and 2nd Grades
  • 5:45-6:45 3rd and 4th Grades
  • 6:45-7:45 5th and 6th Grades
  • 7:45-8:45 7th and 8th Grades

We hope to see you there!

Sign up soon to get your first choice of sessions!

Our annual celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday is coming up! Please join us for Family Reading Night on Thursday, March 3, starting at 6:30 pm. First, adult/child pairs will go to classrooms participate in two sessions of literacy fun. At 7:30, we will gather in the gym for birthday cake and to watch an exhibition Battle of the Books between students and teachers!

Please note that children MUST be accompanied by an adult in each session. Space is limited so all adult/child pairs must REGISTER beforehand. Sessions fill up quickly, so to get your first choice of activities, sign up soon! Younger siblings are also welcome (just be sure to sign them up, too!) Go to:

Dress Ups (not the IEW kind :-)

During the school day on March 3rd, children may dress as their favorite literary character (some restrictions apply). Teachers will clarify expectations for their class, but every child should 1) bring a copy of the book, 2) be prepared to read a favorite passage out of it, 3) be able to engage in regular learning and physical activity in their costume. While comic books, Disney books, and graphic novels are great fun to read, we request that your child choose a more "literary" literary character to represent.

Applications are due by 4pm on March 3rd

Everyone interested in Kindergarten for next year, including siblings of current CHPCS students, must submit an application by the deadline on March 3 to be included in the lottery for Kindergarten. Children 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2016 are eligible. Applications are available in the office or online at

The lottery will be held on March 11 at 7:45 am in the office. All lotteries are open to the public; however, families do not need to attend to be eligible for acceptance and will not be able to accept the offer for enrollment at the lottery. Families will receive a letter notifying them of the results of the lottery with directions on accepting if they have been offered a position. Deadline for acceptance is March 28 at 4pm.

We look forward to welcoming the next class of Falcons!
