Dear Colleagues,

In light of the recent tragic shooting at Umpqua Community College, I wanted to reach out to all of you and thank you for the work you do every day to keep our students safe. The safety of our students is our number one priority and the strong policies and procedures you have in place can and do save lives.

I know that you all share my shock and deep sadness about the recent events. The victims and their families, as well as our education colleagues in the Roseburg area, are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

As you know, these events raise questions and concerns for our students, families, and communities. Please let us know how we can help as you communicate with your school communities about the plans you have in place to keep students safe while in our schools.

Resources to support districts in this planning can be found on our website at: http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?=3841.
