The students are excited and looking forward to seeing all of you in the audience!

Arrival Time: Students will gather by ensemble at 6:15pm as follows:

  • 5/6 Orchestra - Library
  • 5/6 Band - Science Room
  • 7/8 Orchestra - Art Room
  • 7/8 Band - Music Room

Dress Code: Concerts are a very special occasion. Children always perform better and sing more confidently when they know they look the part! Please see the guidelines below:

  • Girls - Dress pants and blouse or dresses are acceptable. Shoulders must be covered and dresses must reach knee length. Clean uniforms are also acceptable.
  • Boys - Dress slacks and a collared shirt are acceptable. Ties are welcome but not required. Clean uniforms are also acceptable.

Parking: Please arrive early to assure a parking space. If you need handicap access, enter at the breezeway doors (north side, by the dumpsters) and ring the bell on the intercom. That entrance has a ramp to the gym level.

Thanks to everyone who has helped with our library project; we are getting very close to opening. It is now time to label the picture books and the NON-Fiction books. Training is provided and so is lunch and child care. "Many hands make light work;" parents, friends, middle school students, high school students, grandparents… everyone is welcome! The children ask everyday, "when will the library be open?"

Did you know… Just 20 minutes a day of leisure reading can enhance a child’s vocabulary, general knowledge, empathy for others, as well as their self confidence as readers. Reading out loud to children from books that are above their independent reading level grows brain cells full of new vocabulary and refined language skills, but even more, it creates closeness and fond memories.

Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be--
I had a mother who read to me.

Check out the “Let's Raise Readers” video at and then come and stock up for your summer reading adventures.

While you are at it, join the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. This is a free online program designed to motivate and excite your children to read this summer. Children can log the minutes they spend reading, play games, earn virtual rewards, and enter sweepstakes, all on a safe child friendly website you and your children can use together. Parents can find age-appropriate activities, resources, tips & articles, and reading lists. Power up and read!

No one can do this for us; only we can do this for us

After the initial momentum, Senate bill 819 is currently languishing in committee. This legislation, which would require all sponsors of charter schools to transfer federal, state, and local moneys to public charter schools on the same basis as moneys are transferred to traditional public schools, would mean approximately $400,000 in additional funds for Cascade Heights, annually!

Our Charter School leaders have been working tirelessly​,​ meeting with all our Senators and Representatives and politicians are taking notice. We have a senator on the Committee who is sympathetic to our cause and co-sponsored this bill. Now is the time. Let's not let up until every single charter school student gets the funding they deserve! ​Here is what you can do​:​

1. Contact your Legislators. If you have already contacted the Legislators in the district in which you live, focus your efforts on the Senators and Representatives on the Ways and Means Subcommittee On Education​. Find a list of these committee members​ here:

Remember that Senator Roblan is a co-sponsor of this bill and is on this committee. It would be great if you and your children took the time to write him a thank you letter for sponsoring this bill (with the understanding we already have his support). He is being a strong advocate for our cause.

Legislators need to hear from charter school parents, staff, and board members how important this issue is to us. Here are some "talking points" you can use when writing/contacting Legislators. But remember, use your own words and stories. That makes our advocacy efforts much more powerful.

Senate Bill 819:

  • is about equity; students in public charter schools are as valuable and as worthy of our public investment as students in other traditional public schools.
  • charter schools receive up to $5,000 less per student in public funding, than their district-run school counterparts but are expected to achieve at the same level.
  • would NOT require any new revenue; it would shift about 1% of the statewide K-12 budget to fund charter school students at an equitable level.
  • would ensure that students in public charter schools receive 95% of all local, federal and state funds.
  • would enable us to attract and retain the best educators, have safer, more comfortable facilities and would allow us to better invest in our students’ overall education.

2. Be ready to go to Salem. We are not sure the date of the next hearing on our bill and these things happen fast. We will keep you posted and hopefully get enough advanced notice that would allow everyone to attend the hearing. We want to pack the room, the hall and the steps of the capital with parents and supporters.

The Tonkin Family of Dealerships is putting on their 4th Annual For the Love of Schools Race on June 7th, 2015 to raise money for local schools. Each registrant chooses the particular school they wish their entry fee dollars to support. 100% of your entry fee will go toward your school!

You can register online or via registration form. Hard copies of the registration form have been sent home. You can fill the form out and send it in yourself, or bring it back, with payment, to the school and we can send it in for you. The registration deadline is June 5th, 2015. We have included a box on the back of the form already checked for Cascade Heights Public Charter School.

Cascade Heights receives the Sister School of the Year Award

The Portland-Suzhou Sister City Association has given us this award for our kindness, hospitality and generosity towards the students and teachers who visit each year from Suzhou Experimental School in Portland's Sister City, Suzhou, China.

In prior years, children and teachers from Suzhou stayed at PSU and enjoyed only one day with local students, but for the past two years, our families have welcomed them into their homes and the school has hosted them for a full week of classes and activities. Hongyu Cai of the Suzhou Municipal Education Bureau for International Cooperation and Exchange says, "When I spent time with our students, they always told me how much excited and happy they were at school and at home stays.”

Thank you to Wenny Liaoshi! Her tireless efforts, along with key parents, have made this program the success that it is.

We are honored that the Portland-Suzhou Sister City Association has chosen to recognize Cascade Heights with this award.

If you are not able to find a legal parking spot, please join car line.

It has come to our attention that complaints of repeated parking violations around the school have put the Clackamas County Sheriff on notice. Increased scrutiny by the Sheriff means that parking in an illegal place is more likely to result in a ticket. Examples of illegal parking include:

  • in a fire lane,
  • crosswalk,
  • handicapped parking (without a permit),
  • our neighbors restricted parking, or
  • blocking a driveway.

Being a good neighbor is an ongoing endeavor and we appreciate your help making sure that our school community is a welcome and valued neighborhood partner for years to come. We would much rather see this come about through voluntary efforts than a rash of parking tickets.
